Recharge your batteries during a hiking holiday in Maranza
As our guest you will receive the Almencard Gitschberg Jochtal. It gives you free access to public transport in South Tyrol, and you may use the cable cars in Maranza & environs free of charge. Thus, you may discover various hiking areas – not only our local mountain, the “Gitsch”, but the entire alpine region all the way to Bressanone.
However, you can start your hiking tours also directly from the village of Maranza. A wonderful family tour, for example, is the hiking path Möserweg to the farm Kösslerhof, then along meadows and the river Eggerbach back to Maranza. The ten kilometres with 350 meters of altitude difference can be managed leisurely in less than three hours, while enjoying magnificent views of the Dolomites and the Isarco Valley. The path is suitable also for children and there are plenty of rest stops along the way, so the hike never gets boring. In just two hours, the hiking path Leitensteig takes you from Maranza to Valles. You may return to Maranza on the valley trail and the Unteregger path, or by bus.
Hiking on Mount Gitschand around Maranza
Mount Gitsch, as we call our mountain in Maranza, can be easily reached by cable car. From the mountain station, you can, for example, walk past the lodges Zasslerhütte and Seefeld Alm to the Campolago lakes, and from there via the Altafossa Valley back to Maranza. You may also take the other direction and enjoy a nice hike from Maranza to the Campolago lakes. Otherwise, you may hike from Mount Gitsch down to Fundres, then take the bus via Vandoies to Rio di Pusteria and from there take the cable car back to Maranza. In Fundres, you may find high altitude paths and the Fundres farm trail, which offers many insights into the traditional South Tyrolean life and work, especially during a guided hike. From the nearby mountain village of Valles, hiking trails lead to the peaks Stoanamandl, Gänsebichl, Gaisjoch or to the Fane Alm, the most beautiful alpine village in South Tyrol, and many others.
Theme trails in the surroundings of Maranza
The wonderful “Bee Trail” in Rodengo offers you plenty of information about the life of bees and about honey production in general; the “Milk Path” in the village of Valles is dedicated to one of the most common products of alpine South Tyrolean farms: milk. Furthermore, the “Elves Trail” in Vandoies di Sopra is all about the fabulous magic of nature. Across the beautiful Altafossa Valley, there is a Kneipp Trail, explaining the life and work of the health expert Dr Sebastian Kneipp, while the “Legend Path Meronsna” addresses the many legends and stories that wind around the mysterious valleys and gorges in Maranza. Thus, there is something for every taste, and children will find plenty of variety and educational fun on the theme trails. Enjoy a great hiking holiday in Maranza, with mountain walks, family tours or theme hikes.
